Volunteers Needed!

Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home needs volunteers to assist the agency in a variety of roles.  Volunteers help patients in their homes and nursing homes and may spend time reading to patients, running errands or giving time off to the patient’s caregiver. Volunteer support is also needed in the 14-bed in-patient Hospice Home. Duties include patient support activities and clerical support. There is a special need for evening and weekend volunteers.  Garden volunteers are also needed to help maintain the Seasons of Life garden adjacent to Hospice Home.

Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home is a non-profit, community-based agency that provides support and end-of-life care for a thirteen-county area in northeast Indiana. The agency employs an interdisciplinary team approach that includes a medical director, nurses, aides, social workers, spiritual care, music therapy and volunteers. Visiting Nurse & Hospice Home not only provides care for the patient but support and assistance for the family as well.

After an interview, a comprehensive volunteer training prepares the incoming volunteer for this fulfilling work. Volunteer training is generally offered twice a year. Our volunteer program is well established and provides ongoing guidance and support through a staff Volunteer Coordinator.

Many people are motivated to volunteer because of a positive experience with hospice. For your care and protection, we ask that inquiring volunteers wait at least a year if they have recently lost a loved one.
